How to Use Free Printable Christmas Tags (Best Ideas & Tips)

Step 1: Select the tags you’d like to use. Depending on your style, the gift and the recipient, you can choose the perfect design. Or, you may want to try a variety of these tags.
Step 2: Decide how you want to use these. You can either use AS IS by clicking the link in the caption to directly download the PDF. From there you’ll print and hand write your name and message. OR, follow the link to Canva (free) edit to add your name, special message and /or contact information and then download directly from Canva. We love Canva for editing as it’s free and so easy to use.
Step 3: Choose the best paper types (cardstock, matte, glossy). You can use cardstock, matte or glossy! A lightweight cardstock is always our first pick as it has a solid feel and holds up great, but make sure it can get through your home printer! We often use this cardstock for these free printable Christmas tags editable, but you may want to do a test print or research first to ensure your printer can handle it.
Kraft paper looks great with Christmas tags as long as the design can still show through. And, a glossy paper can also really make the design look crisp and pop, however those tend to be more flimsy. If you use glossy paper you may want to stick it to a piece of cardboard backing or cardstock to give it some weight.
If you’re just using standard printer paper you’ll want to select a good weight paper that won’t feel thin (we like this bright white paper at 32lbs). Depending on the design, you’ll want to choose from a bright white, a warm cream or even different color paper or card stock.
Step 4: Check Your Printer Settings and Print!: How to print these printables correctly… There is a lot of variation with printers but for best results on a home printer, we suggest that you print at 100% (Actual Size). Do not choose “Fit to Page” or scaling options, as this can change the tag size and spacing, which can also waste paper. Printing at 100% ensures the tags come out the correct size and are simple to cut.
Step 5: Cut them up. Cut tags using scissors or a paper trimmer (we use this paper trimmer) for clean, straight edges. For thicker cardstock, cut one sheet at a time. If you want to have some fun edges, try using decorative craft scissors.
Use a single-hole punch (⅛” or ¼”) to punch a hole at the top center or corner of each tag, leaving about ¼ inch from the edge to prevent tearing. You can choose where to hole punch depending on the design.
Another easy option is to print these on sticker paper and cut and attach as labels!
Step 6: Add your touch! Don’t be shy about using fancy markers or calligraphy pens to add a beautiful signature! And have some fun with watercolor markers orthin tipped markers to decorate the free printable Christmas coloring tags!
Step 7: Go big with ribbon. Select some gorgeous Christmas ribbon, skinny velvet ribbon, glittery bows, curling ribbon or more to attach these to the present or treat of your choice. For a minimalistic look, try earthy style twine, or simplistic baker’s string through the hole and tie or loop onto your gift.

Creative Wrapping Ideas to Pair With Your Free Printable Christmas Tags
There’s a secret to giving a gift that makes an amazing impression. And it doesn’t matter what that gift is, it could be something you bought or something homemade, it could be the hottest item of the season or something you just put together…. The secret is impeccable wrapping. And going big on wrapping doesn’t have to be expensive at all, it simply has to be thoughtful. These are a few quick tips on beautiful, yet inexpensive ways to wrap a present:

- Free Customizable Tags: First and foremost, use our beautiful free printable Christmas tags! We have a huge array of Christmas and holiday ones that you can customize with your name and special message. It doesn’t get more special than a matching gift tag with your name on it.
- Unique Ribbons and Decor: Need we say more! Stock up on fabric ribbons, curling ribbons, pretty string and twine to mix and match on your gifts and gift bags! And don’t forget to reuse… simply collect beautiful bows and ribbons from unwrapped gifts and reuse them. You can also make wrapping decor from everyday fabrics, cool papers and more household items.
- Get Artsy: If you use a basic paper or print, decorate the paper with paint pens, Christmas stamps or more. Let the kids help design the paper and you can add the finishing touches with ribbons and decor. Also, don’t forget about upcycling materials and “wrapping paper.” Ideas include fabric or cool shopping bags, maps and arts and craft paper.
- Utilize Old Christmas Decor: If you’re done with old decor or even want to visit thrift shops or yard sales to find interesting pieces, these can be added to bows or ribbons. Think fun ornaments (non-breakable), cut up pieces of wreaths, or vintage fabrics for wrapping or bows.
- Shop Off Season: Go big after the holidays and stock up for the next year or stick to basic prints (more on that in the next point). If you don’t want to brave the post-holiday crowds at the big box stores, simply scope out holiday clearance sections at the pharmacy, local card shop or grocery stores.
- Stay Neutral: Pick up kraft paper, gold or modern prints or other timeless wrapping paper that you could easily change from a holiday to a birthday with some ribbon. You’d be surprised how much holiday paper can be repurposed all year long!
