Tips for Printing and Using FREE Printables at Home
Get a Sturdy and Clean Finish: For high quality results, use bright white, heavier weighted paper! We tend to choose 28–32 lb bright white paper like this premium HP paper. For cards, tags, or signs, use white cardstock for an impressive finish that won’t look flimsy. If your only option is regualr printer paper, that works too! You can add a decorative piece of cardstock, such as these astrobrights or similar, to the back (like a frame) to give it some weight or just work with the paper you have!
Practice Printing! In most cases it works best to set our free printables to print at 100% or “actual size,” however all printers are different. We recommend doing a grayscale practice print to ensure it looks perfect before you embark on a color print. If you’e working with a simple 8.5×11 free printable, then you are usually fine to proceed as normal without a test print.
Go High Quality in You Settings: Once you’e determined the correct scale, then go to your printer preferences and choose “Best” or “High” to make colors vibrant and lines sharp.
Be Patient! Let the ink dry before touching and avoid smudging your free printables by giving freshly printed pages a minute to dry. This is ESPECIALLY important when working with especially on glossy paper.
Let The Kids Help: If the printable is a gift from a student or child (like for Teacher Appreciation printables or Mother’s Day coloring cards), let kids fill it out with fun markers, puffy paint, cool cut outs with craft scissors and stickers to make it extra special!
Stock Up On Supplies: Printables use more ink than you think (don’t forget to do those practice prints in grayscale)! So stock up on cartridges as well as art supplies, ribbons, tape, scissors, and washi for stress-free crafting.
