According to the Houston Chronicle, the 100 day of school concept started back in 1979 by a teacher named Lynn Taylor in Livermore, California. The Chronicle describes it as a math exercise that involved a Sesame Street puppet counting 100 pennies to make $1. Two years later it was written about in a global math newsletter and appears to have spread from there.
When is the 100th Day of School?
Depending on what day you started, schools count school days only (not weekends or holidays off) up to 100 days. In most places the 100th day of school falls in late February or early March.
