Introducing our free printable commission based chore charts for kids! Specifically, our commission-based chore charts have gained immense popularity on our PurelyPrintables.com Pinterest page.

What makes them unique is their approach to chores and rewards. Unlike traditional allowance-tracker systems (we have those too in our free chore charts post), our charts operate on a commission basis. Children only earn or get paid for the chores they complete. This type of chore chart set-up will hopefully teach kids the notion of earning money/goods/experiences/screen time etc through their efforts and encourages responsibility. It also provides a clear motive for finishing chores and can be an important tool for teaching financial knowledge and budgeting.
This commission system not only teaches kids the value of earning, but also eliminates the need for constant parental nagging. We were inspired by Dave Ramsey’s commission system, which focuses on instilling a strong work ethic in children instead of simply giving them free money through allowances.
If you ‘re looking for a larger selection of chore chart options (as well as free allowance trackers and responsibility charts), besides just these commission-based ones, PurelyPrintables.com first released a set of free printable chore charts a while back. These trackers have a huge range of options from bubble gum charts or family chore charts and more.
A Note On Choosing And Enforcing Age Appropriate Chores
Before delving too deeply into chore charts, it’s important to note that we’re not experts in parenting or medicine. This printable post is merely a resource offering suggestions for chore charts and how to use them. Please exercise mindfulness when selecting chores, ensuring they are safe, appropriate for the child’s age, and not overly demanding. While this is supposed to help with responsibility, work ethic and general assistance around the house, it is not supposed to be something that causes too much stress. If it does, put it away for a while or revamp. We advise consulting with a pediatrician or family physician to ensure the selection of age-appropriate and safe chores or responsibilities.
Benefits of Free Printable Commission Based Chore Charts
Free printable commission based chore charts are a useful tool for parents and guardians to motivate children to complete household chores by offering them rewards only for the tasks they have accomplised. These printable charts provide a visual representation of tasks and allow for easy tracking of progress. By utilizing commission-based incentives, parents can teach their children about “getting paid” for a job well done, instilling good work habits
Commission Based Chore Charts Are Designed to Instill a Strong Work Ethic
According to the Merriam Webster definition of Work Ethic, it’s “Word Ethic: Noun: a belief in work as a moral good : a set of values centered on the importance of doing work and reflected especially in a desire or determination to work hard”.
There are many ways of teaching a good work ethic to children and this is just one of them. Whether it be money, screen time, points toward a big outing or something else, whatever value you put on each chore is not earned until the task is completed. This is designed to motivate children to have the desire to work hard and do a good job on the chores knowing they will earn the reward only if they do them.
Eliminating Parent Nagging By Using Commission Based Chore Charts
Going hand-in-hand with instilling a strong work ethic is allowing teens and children to understand the value of their chores on their own. And, in doing this, nagging them to get things done will have the opposite effect. Hopefully they succeed at this, but if they fail and do not earn anything or what they would have liked to earn, than that is a huge lesson. So set expectations, make sure the child understands exactly how this works, and then quietly let them succeed on their own.
How to Implement Commission Based Chore Charts
Choose age-appropriate chores
Before starting this section… Please see our note above in the introduction regarding age appropriate chores.
Coming up with age-appropriate chores to kids can be fun and something you can do with your child. A few suggestions… for the younger ones, basic, yet helpful, tasks like tidying a playroom, making their bed, or organizing shoes in the foyer could be good options. As they grow older, they can take on more, such as folding laundry, dusting, or sweeping floors. It’s important to consider the child’s physical abilities, maturity level, and actually what they may enjoy and excel in when selecting chores. Providing straightforward instructions and showing how to complete chores can help ensure success. Additionally, offering kind words and support for their efforts can inspire children to continue working toward their charts goals
Assign a Commission Value to Each Chore
First determine what the tasks will , then determine how often they will be done and then assign a value to them. However you decide to reward the child, break it down by the amount of times they’ll be asked to do the task per week. For example, if making a bed is 10 cents and they are expected to do it everyday, the most they can earn is 70 cents. If they make the bed 5 times they earn 50 cents. Not all tasks are everyday. If cleaning up toys is expected 3 times a week and it’s 50 cents a time, the most they earn is $1.50.
