Free Printable Fill in the Blank Thank You Notes for Kids
Expressing gratitude for a gift is an important part of life that many parents prefer to start from an early age. One of the best ways is through a thank you card. Whether it’s a scribble from a toddler, a short note from a younger child or a handwritten message from a teen, the act of sending a thank you card is something that can be started at any age.
At PurelyPrintables.com we are parents too and have worked with our children on sending thank you notes… and we know that it can be a challenge to get them done. We were inspired to create these fun free printable fill in the blank thank you notes to both make writing thank you cards easier and demonstrate some thoughtful ways to write a thank you card. So when a child is older and no longer using a fill-in-the-blank thank you card they’ll have some ideas of what to write.

Why is it Important for Kids to Write Thank You Cards?
Having kids write thank you cards teaches them a great way to show appreciation and gratitude for a gift or a kind act. Once they know how to write them they are easy to do and are something they will do (hopefully) throughout their life.
It Lets The Gift-Giver Know it Has Arrived: Have you ever sent a gift to someone and wondered if it got there? Sure we can track most everything these days, but there are so many variables that could make it not arrive. Therefore, sending a thank you as soon as you receive a gift is simply a logistical courtesy to say the gift arrived safely and it’s appreciated!
It’s Simple, Yet Impactful: Sending a thank you card or message is SO fast/easy to do and is simply a polite thing to do when you get a gift or when someone does something kind for you. It makes the gift-giver feel appreciated and it shows gratitude. Our free printable fill in the blank thank you notes make it even easier!
Thank You Cards Are A Formal Way To Express Gratitude: Emailing, calling or texting are also options for saying thank you (and they work great too in many situations). However, when a child receives a gift, acknowledging it with a personal, handwritten note is a traditional and formal way to say thank you.
Create a Habit Of Writing Thank You Cards: Once kids start writing thank you cards they will get into the habit of it and it is something they can automatically start doing on their own. In younger years a thank you card is perfect after a gift, but as you age into adulthood, sending a thank you card is a beautiful and welcome gesture after other non-gift things! For example, as adults we send a thank you after someone makes you a delicious meal, or you’ve spent the weekend at a friend’s vacation home, had a job interview or if someone simply is a wonderful friend. And getting into the habit of writing thank you notes as a child will transfer into adulthood.
A Few Quick Tips When Writing Thank You Cards With Kids:
1: Explain Why You’re Writing Thank You Cards: Oftentimes as parents we teach our children to do something but do not explain why we are doing it. Talk to you child about the gift or act they received and why you think it is important to say thank you and how you think the gift-giver will feel when they see your child’s thank you note.
2: Give Them Ideas: Sit with your child and make suggestions regarding content. Perhaps they could say why they love the gift, how they will use it or why it’s perfect for them. If you want your child to work a bit more independently then this is where the prompts in our free printable fill in the blank thank you notes could come in handy.
3. Allow Them To Pick The Cards: Whether you use thank you card stationary, art paper or our free printable fill in the blank thank you notes, allow the child to pick the ones they want to use.
4. Let The Child Get Creative: We love these washable markers for drawing or these gel pens that come with a case if they want to get fancy with their writing. They can also decorate with fun stickers or if they really want to get artistic they can use watercolor pens. Don’t forget to decorate the envelope!
5: Keep It Age Appropriate: A younger child may draw a picture or write a few words, while an older child can write a bit more detail. Also, do not do too many in one sitting. They can be spaced out, especially if there are a lot of thank you cards for the child to write. The experts at Emily Post have written a comprehensive article on thank you note tips for kids and teens and they break down tips really well by age group.
